Lets turn that frown upside-down.
The secret lies in small acts of self care. If you can summon the willpower during these darker colder months to get out of a crappy mood then the rest is a doddle! So when you decide the time is right, give one or more of the following a try…
/// Take a shower ///
Shower Power (insert flexed bicep emoji here)! This is personally my go to trick when I’m feeling rubbish. Having a good soak/scrub/wash refreshes my mind and instantly resets my thinking. The world seems so much more – manageable – if we are clean and presentable. Plus, you don’t have to think too much about taking a shower, before you know it, you’ve accomplished something. Score.
/// Hydrate ///
It has been said over and over again but hydration is so important. It’s pretty much the answer for everything, but how often do we actually take this advice? Sometimes when I feel stuffy, down or lethargic, it is literally my body’s way of letting me know I am parched and quite literally running on low, instead of just feeling low. Drink a large glass (or more if you can stomach it) of water and let your body catch up a bit.
/// Dance ///
I know this sounds like a silly one, but hear me out. Get. Your. Blood. Pumping. Put some music on and dance it out – this will help bust your stress (and low-grumpy-shlumpyness) whilst boosting your immune system and producing endorphins in the process. We all know moving is good for us, but it is severely under-utilisted when it comes to breaking free of a rubbish mood and overcoming low periods in life.
/// Sunshine ///
Find some sun and put your face in it! Sound bizarre but close your eyes and turn your face into direct sunlight. Same goes for fresh air. Feeling low can get stuffy, especially as we tend to stay in-doors and mope. So get outside. Instead of sitting in front of the TV, sit in front of the Sun! Get your daily dose of Vitamin D, which has health benefits all of its own, but we naturally associate the sun with happiness. This will boost your mood guaranteed and is one of the best tips for tricking yourself into feeling awesome.
